Intuition & Health: How to Awaken Your Inner Knowing and Tap into Your Self-Healing System
Why you may be stuck in your mental and physical healing journey
I’ve delved deep into the intricate dance between intuition and unresolved trauma, unraveling how each thread weaves into the fabric of our health. Science beautifully illustrates the connection between our emotional and psychological states and chronic illness through the gut-brain axis and the enteric nervous system. Yet, in the shadowy corners of unresolved trauma and stress, how do we discern whether our ailments arise from the depths of our mental landscape or from the outer realm of diet and lifestyle? How do we awaken our intuition to guide us through this labyrinth?
A profound truth resonates with me: there is a universal source of wisdom that calls to each of us. This source comes in such forms as a divine whisper, the timeless rhythms of nature, the echoes of our ancestors, the threads of karma, the alignment of the stars, and the art of manifestation. The key is to learn how to attune ourselves to this inner beacon.
My health journey took a transformative turn when I encountered transcendental meditation. This practice shook me awake, unveiling the truth of how often I had been lost in thought, ruminating over the past, instead of embracing the now without baggage or agenda. After each session, I would often experience synchronicities, unveiling answers to questions I hadn’t yet voiced, and experiencing an enriching sense of closeness to a boundless reservoir of some sort of inner knowing.
Ayurveda, the ancient science of qualities, teaches us to observe the subtleties within ourselves and the vibrant environment around us. It’s about gathering pieces of qualitative data and weaving them into a tapestry that reflects our unique constitution. When we begin to listen closely to the whispers of our experience, we start making choices that profoundly shift our well-being. This inner transformation requires us to carve out space within ourselves, creating a sanctuary that allows our bodies’ innate wisdom to surface.
Somatic practices beautifully echo this philosophy. They often invite us into a realm of relaxation, where we can tune in and truly hear what our bodies have to say.
Consider the following practices as a way to activate your body’s natural self-healing system or intuition by listening to its needs, truly honoring them, and cultivating inner peace.
It’s sounds simple and a bit woo-woo, but your body will not trust itself until you show it that it’s safe to be any way it needs to be and give it resources to feel safe and secure.
Imagine navigating the landscape of your emotions. The next time a heavy feeling washes over you, pause and ask, “What is my body holding in relation to …fill in the blank with what is arising?” Embrace the sensation—whether it’s tightness, warmth, or a vivid image. Allow it to exist without judgment and see what unfolds. Do this as much as possible.
Don’t forget to celebrate joy! Jot down 5 easy things that uplift your spirit—dunking ginger biscuits into tea, stretching, or reorganizing your desk. By inviting joy, you create a sanctuary within, helping your body feel safe, relaxed, and more like you. This dance between emotions and joy enhances your nervous system, aids trauma processing, and quiets the mind to hear your intuition. Practice 1-2 things from your list daily.
Embark on this journey with an open heart, letting your emotions guide you to deeper understanding and your joys cultivate inner peace.
